Easy to Crochet Baby Sweater Pattern
This crochet baby sweater pattern is ideal for beginners. More accomplished crocheters can easily add edgings, contrast colours or pockets to add interest.

About 125g of acrylic light worsted yarn (UK double knitting)
Allow more for heavier yarns such as cotton or wool.
5.5mm hook
Large blunt needle for making up.

Approx. 16 stitches and 14 rows to 5 inches working half double crochet (UK half trebles) using 5.5mm hook.
Abbreviations
ch = chain
st = stitch
sts = stitches
hdc = half double crochet (UK half treble)
tch = turning chain
inc = increase
dec = decrease
hdc2tog = half double crochet 2 together (UK half treble 2 together)
Instructions
Back
With 5.5mm hook make 35 ch
Row 1
Make 1dc into 2nd chain from hook. dc into remaining ch sts to end. (34 sts)
1ch turn
Row 2
dc into every stitch to end
1ch turn
repeat row 2 3 more times
make a tch of 2ch at end of last row
Row 6
Mis first st
Work hdc into remaining stitches to end
2ch turn
Row 7
Miss first stitch
Work hdc into remaining stitches to end.
Work 1hdc into tch
2ch turn
Repeat row 7 until work measures 28cm (approx 27 rows)
Do not make a tch at end of last row.
Finish off by breaking yarn (leave a good length) and thread the end through the remaining loop - pull tight.
Front
Work as for back until you have reached four rows from the top.

dec in next 2 sts by working hdc2tog,

Go back to neck edge. Miss 12 sts and join in yarn on 13th st

Mis one st, 1hdc into next 6 stitches, hdc2tog, hdc into tch, 2ch turn

miss one st, hdc2tog, hdc to end, hdc into tch, 2ch turn

miss one st, hdc to end, hdc into tch, fasten off
Sleeve
Make 18ch
first row
1sc into 2nd chain from hook, sc into each remaining ch, 1ch turn
second row
sc into every stitch to end, 1ch turn
repeat row 2 three more times making a 2ch tch at end of 5th row
change to working hdc
row 1
miss one stitch, hdc twice into next stitch, hdc until one stitch left to work. hdc twice into next stitch, hdc into tch, 2ch turn
row2
miss one stitch, hdc into every stitch to end, hdc into tch, 2ch turn
rows 3 4 5 and 6 work as row2
row 7 work as row 1
COntinue working in this manner, working increases as in row one on rows10 15 and 20
row 20 is the last row. fasten off
Make a second sleeve to match
Making up
Using a large blunt needle with right sides together sew shoulder seams.
Attach top of sleaves to front and back, matching centres (centers) to shoulder seams.
Sew up sleeve seams and side seams.
Darn in ends
