Crochet Lace Edging

A crochet lace edging is often just the thing for finishing off an otherwise plain item.

Below are free instructions for 3 pretty lace edging patterns. All of the patterns can be worked onto a base row of any plain stitch. The ones i have made up for the photos use a base row of double crochet (UK trebles)

Edging 1

Arch and Picot Edging

ROW 1

1 chain, 2 single crochet (UK double crochet) into first 2 stitches

* 3 chain, miss 2 stitches, 1 single crochet into each of next 3 stitches **

repeat from * to **

finish with 2 single crochet instead of 3 single crochet

ROW 2

* 2 chain 1 double crochet (UK treble) 1 chain 1 double crochet 1 chain 1 double crochet into chain space

2 chain slip stitch into middle of 3 single crochet of previous row **

repeat from * to **

finish with 1 single crochet into last single crochet of previous row

ROW 3

5 chain * 1 single crochet into middle double crochet of previous row, 5ch **

repeat from * to **

finish with slip stitch into first chain of previous row

ROW 4

1 chain, 5 single crochet into 1st chain space, 1 single crochet into single crochet of previous row.

* 3 single crochet into chain space, 3 chain, slip stich into 1st of the 3 chain, 3 singe crochet into same chain space, 1 single crochet into single crochet of previous row. **

Repeat from * to **

Finish with 5 single crochet into last chain space. slip stitch into last chain of previous row.



Edging 2

Ribbon Insert Edging

Use this edging just as it is, or thread a pretty ribbon through it.

INSTRUCTIONS

Row 1

10 chain, miss 2 stitches, 1 single crochet (UK double crochet) into next stitch

Repeat from * to ** to end

Row 2

7 chain, 1 single crochet into 1st chain space

* 1 chain, 1 single crochet into next chain space **

Repeat form * to ** to end.

Stretch the loops to straighten them.

Row 3

1 chain, 1 single croceht into 1st single croceht of previous row

* 1 single crochet into chain space, 1 single crochet into next single crochet of previous row **

Repeat from * to ** to end.

Row 4

1 chain, 1 single crochet into each of first 3 stitches

* 2chain, slip stitch into first chain, 1 single crochet inot each of next 3 stitches **

Repeat from * to ** to end



Edging 3

Shell Stitch Lace Edging

As usual with an edging, work on a foundation row of firm straight edged stitches

ROW 1

5 chain, 1 treble (UK double treble) into first stitch, 1 chain, 1 treble into first stitch, miss 3 stitches, 1 single crochet (UK double crochet) into next stitch

* miss 3 stitches

[1 treble, 1 ch, 1 treble, 1 chain, 1 treble, 1 chain, 1 treble] into next stitch.

miss 3 stitches

1 single crochet into next stitch **

repeat from * to ** to end

ROW 2

5 chain, 1 treble (UK double treble) into first stitch, 1 chain, 1 treble into first stitch

* 1 single crochet into 3rd chain space

make a shell as in the first row **

repeat from * to ** to end, finishing with 1 single crochet into 4th of 5 chain of previous row.

Repeat row 2 as often as you like, depending on the with you want your edging to be.

This stitch can also be used to make a crochet fabric by repeating row 2
